Darren Lee Smith, 49, of Springfield, Ohio, passed away on Friday, December 4, 2015, at the Springfield Regional Medical Center. Born on August 26, 1966, in Spokane, Washington, he was the son of Marvin Smith and the late Rita Fisette Smith. On September 22, 1993, he married Julia Calvert Smith, and his wife survives his passing. A graduate of Rogers High School, he served his country for nine years in the United States Air Force and, for the last five years, served as a HBC Event Custodian with Clark State Community College. Darren loved his family, which included his two dogs, Louie, and the late Clyde, playing golf and working at the university.

In addition to his mother, he was preceded in death by: his brother, Kenneth Smith; his mother-in-law, Elizabeth Ann Marquardt Calvert; and his sister-in-law, Cynthia Calvert Clos. He is survived by: his wife of 22 years, Julia “Julie” Calvert Smith, USAF (Ret.); his father, Marvin Smith (Olga Pasher), of Spokane, Washington; his dog, Louie; his two sisters, Sue (Phil) Nollmeyer, of Reardan, Washington, and Diane (Tim) Davey, of Spokane, Washington; his two brothers, Walt Smith, of Garden Spokane, Washington, and Mike (Lori) Smith, of Spokane, Washington ; his father-in-law, James “Louie” Calvert, of Berry, Kentucky; his sister-in-law, Regina Gentry, of Berry; his brother-in-law, Roger Calvert, of Berry; and a host of extended family and friends.

Friends and family are invited to gather from 12:00 to 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, December 12, at the Woodhead Funeral Home, in Falmouth, Kentucky, to celebrate Darren’s life, followed by a service beginning at 2:00 p.m. Military honors will be conducted by the Hardin-Browning Post #109. To honor his love of puppies, memorials are suggested to the Pendleton County Humane Society, 1314 Bryan Griffin Road, Butler, Kentucky 41006.
