John Wallace Dodge
January 18, 1931 - March 27, 2017

Mr. John Wallace Dodge, 86, of Varnville, passed away on Monday, March 27, 2017, after a brief illness. Born January 18, 1931, in Avoyelles Parish, Louisiana, he was the son of the late Charles and Maude Mae Paul Aymond Dodge.

Mr. Dodge was a graduate of LSU – Alexandria, served in the United States Navy, and earned a Masters Degree in Education from the University of South Carolina. After marrying his wife of many years, Betty Mims Dodge, they relocated to South Carolina.

Mr. Dodge served as principal of Cameron High School in Calhoun County before settling permanently in Varnville. Among his many accomplishments in the field of education in Hampton included Hampton County Superintendent of Education, Superintendent of Hampton School District 2, Principal of Wade Hampton High School and Principal of Varnville School. He was also a member of the Hampton Friends of the Arts Organization.

His Land’s End home brought him salt water therapy along with many years of joy.

Most recently Mr. Dodge faithfully attended Spirit of Life Ministries in Frog Hollow where he enjoyed the music immensely.

Surviving are his two sons, Charles Olin (LeeAnn) Dodge of Beaufort, and John McNeal (Donna) Dodge of Barnwell; Grandchildren, Erin Murdaugh Ryan, Cindy Carr Ray, Morrow Dodge, Brett Dodge, Johnny Mac Dodge, Renee Dodge, Cameron Dodge and Luci Dodge; Great-grandchildren, Haley Altman, Katherine Louise Ryan, Brian Bodiford, Jr., Liam Dodge and Rowan Dodge.

Mr. Dodge is pre-deceased by his daughter, Wanda Dodge Carr: sisters Jeanette Amond and Bill Graff; and brothers C.O. Dodge and Jack Dodge.

Graveside services will be Thursday at 5 P.M. at the Varnville Cemetery conducted by Rev. David Schaffer and directed by Peeples-Rhoden Funeral Home of Hampton.
