Memorial services for George Spencer Mead, age 87 of Ruston will be held 11:00 AM, Friday, March 31, 2017 at Trinity United Methodist Church in Ruston. Reverend Leslie Stephens and Reverend Juliet Spencer will be officiating.

George died Saturday, March 25, 2017 in Ruston, LA suffering complications from an accidental fall at his home. George was born January 18, 1930 in Monticello, AR to John Curtis Mead Sr. and Thelma Spencer Mead. He spent his childhood there and developed his Southern charm.

George entered the United States Air Force in 1948 and served proudly for over twenty years with assignments in Iceland, Germany, Libya along with U.S. posts in Calif., Texas, Mississippi and Florida. His final post brought him to Louisiana Tech University's R.O.T.C detachment. Upon retirement from the Air Force, he operated Mead's Mobil Station from 1968 to 1979 and in 1980 returned to Louisiana Tech University as Property Manager, retiring in 1990.

He was a long-standing member of Trinity United Methodist Church, the Willing Workers and 2x2 Sunday School Classes. George also spent many years serving the local Chapter of Kiwanis International. He loved God, family, friends, meeting new people and traveling , especially in Colorado. He was always well dressed with his button-down shirts, starched pants and Stetson dress hat.

George is survived by his beloved wife of 41 years: Joy Howard Mead; daughter: Ginger Mead Baxter; sons: Charles Mead and wife Allison and Mike Mead; daughter: Suzanne Mead Kimmel and husband Dan and sister-in-law: Katherine Mead. George also leaves behind seven beloved grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his parents, brother: John Curtis, Jr., former wife Ann Cheairs Mead and daughter-in-law Vicky Boyd Mead.

Visitation will be at 10:00 AM until service time, Friday, March 31, 2017 at Trinity United Methodist Church in Ruston In lieu of flowers, memorial donations are requested be made to the Ruston Christian Community Action or St. Jude’s Children Hospital
