JOHN L. HLAVACHEK
(1931 - 2017)

John L. Hlavachek, age 85, a Manitowoc resident, died Saturday morning, March 25, 2017 at Holy Family Memorial Medical Center, Manitowoc.

He was born on April 13, 1931 in Reedsville, son of the late John and Viola (Sinkula) Hlavachek. John was a graduate of Reedsville High School with the class of 1949. He then served in the US Navy. John was an operating engineer for Local 139 for 57 years. He was employed with Schuette Construction in Manitowoc and Payne and Dolan, Inc. in Waukesha, retiring in 1995. John was a former member of the Catholic Knights and the Amvets Post #99. In retirement, John liked to travel and restore antique tractors. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and spending time at his cottage in Eagle River with his family and friends. John was an avid baseball fan and was very passionate about the Cubs and Bears.

Survivors include three sons and one daughter-in-law: James and Donna Hlavachek, Manitowoc, Thomas Hlavachek, Reedsville, Theodore Hlavachek, Mishicot; two daughters and one son-in-law: Jean Hlavachek, Two Rivers and Kathleen and Jerry Schaus, Mishicot; four grandchildren: Kari (Jeremiah) Krause, Nicholas Schaus, all of Two Rivers, Kurtis Schaus, Manitowoc, Geoffrey Hlavachek-Arnold, Milwaukee; two sisters and one brother-in-law: Dorothy Sadow, Scottsdale, AZ, Elizabeth and Vernon Lemberger, Whitelaw. Nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends also survive. He was also preceded in death by one brother-in-law: Erwin Sadow.

Cremation has occurred at All-Care Cremation Center, Manitowoc and funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM on Thursday, March 30, 2017 at St. Francis of Assisi on Waldo, (1121 North 14th Street, Manitowoc). Officiating at the Mass of Christian Burial will be the Rev. Dave Pleier with burial of John's cremated remains to take place at St. Mary Cemetery, Reedsville.

The family will greet relatives and friends on Thursday, March 30, 2017 at St. Francis of Assisi on Waldo from 11:30 AM until 12:45 PM.
