Phyllis A. Montgomery, age 87, of Mattoon passed away at 7:50 a.m. on Sunday, March 26, 2017 at Odd Fellow Rebekah Home.
Funeral services for family and friends will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, March 30, 2017 at St. John’s Lutheran Church, 200 Charleston Avenue, Mattoon with Pastor Adam Jacobsen officiating. The family requests casual attire. Burial will follow at Resthaven Memorial Gardens. A visitation for family and friends will be held from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, March 29, 2017 at Schilling Funeral Home.
Phyllis was born on December 27, 1929 in Mattoon, the daughter of Albert H. and Caroline (Homann) Nolte. She married Laurence E. Montgomery on March 14, 1948.
Survivors include her loving husband of 69 years, Laurence E. Montgomery of Mattoon, IL; children, Gary L. (Deb) Montgomery of Red Oak, TX, Alan E. (Judy) Montgomery of Mattoon, IL, Joy L. (Verne) Adkins of Mattoon, IL and Calvin R. Montgomery of Mattoon, IL; grandchildren, Laurence “Larry” (Tina) Montgomery of Franklin, WI, Devon (Doug) Hottinger of Bedford, TX, Scott (Jessie) Montgomery of Gays, IL, Carrie (Josh) Bales McKinney of Mattoon, IL, Kallie (Scott) Harris of Mattoon, IL and Korey Adkins of Lisle, IL; and nine great grandchildren. Phyllis was preceded in death by her parents and grandson-in-law, Kelly Bales.
Phyllis was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church, Mattoon. She was a loving mother and homemaker. She enjoyed helping on the farm and driving the grain trucks. Phyllis loved crocheting, playing cards and watching “The Walton’s.” Most of all, she cherished spending time with her friends and family. Phyllis will be greatly missed by all those who knew and loved her.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in her honor are suggested to St. John’s Lutheran Church or St. John’s Lutheran School.
