Janie Atkins Moore, beloved mother, grandmother, and great grandmother, died peacefully Saturday, March 25th at Moses Cone Hospital surrounded by loved ones. The youngest of nine children, she was born to John Reid, Sr. and Lula Cayton Reid. She is survived by her loving husband, William Moore. Her beautiful life will be forever cherished by her children, Janet Silvers (Micky), and Tim Isley (Tammy). “Mama Jane” adored and was so proud of her two grandchildren, Ben (Ivy) and Joseph Silvers, and her great-grandson, Reid, was the light of her life (“Ah Jane”). She is survived by her sister, Tunie Hazlip, as well as special nephews, cousins, and close family friends.
Janie was a member of Madison Presbyterian Church where she was active in the church choir and the MPC Women’s Circle. Janie was also active in community service as a charter member of the Western Rockingham Civitans. She began her professional career with Burlington Industries and was a retiree from Belk Stores. A leading sales associate at the Belk store at Friendly Center, she received the Greensboro Merchant’s Association’s “Circle of Excellence” award for exceptional sales performance and customer service. Janie loved fashion and people, and her career was a testament to those passions.
Flowers are appreciated or memorials may be made to Madison Presbyterian Church. The family will receive visitors and friends the evening of Tuesday, March 28th from 6:00 – 8:00 PM at Ray Funeral Home in Madison (119 N. Market St.) and other times at the home of Micky and Janet Silvers (702 W. Academy St., Madison). A funeral service to honor Janie will be held on Wednesday, March 29th at 3:00 PM at Madison Presbyterian Church (204 W. Decatur St.) with burial at Woodland Cemetery following the service.
