Memorials may be given in Wayne’s name. Memories can be shared with the family at www.ritchiefuneralhome.com under Obituaries. Arrangements were entrusted to the Ritchie Funeral Home of Bedford.

Wayne William Pace was born April 28, 1929, the son of Joseph Perry Pace and Alta Marie (Watts) Pace, in rural Taylor County, Iowa. On June 11, 1947, he was united in marriage to Coryl Maye Hatfield in Glenwood, Iowa. Stories of their honeymoon were always fun to hear . . .they went to the circus in Lincoln, Nebraska! Wayne and Coryl were blessed with three children, Barbara Kay, Carole Ann and Robert Wayne.

Wayne was also blessed with the birth of three granddaughters, Jennifer Kay Ware, Cara Lynnette Hollingworth and Pamela May Bucher. He has six great-grandchildren who were the delight of his life, Kaitlyn Kay Ware, Hollis Michael Eugene Ware, Adrian David Hollingworth, Aleighla Lynn Hollingworth, Zoe Dalynn Bucher and Jordyn Elyse Bucher.

Wayne went to work for the county at the age of 16, and worked on a caterpillar for several years before going into business for himself. Wayne bulldozed for many, many years before retiring. He loved to drive the country roads, often saying he helped build this or that road . . . or that pond . . . or that terrace, etc. He would also love the shocked look on people's faces when they would ask him what he did for a living . . .and he would say, "I'm a cat-skinner"! Wayne also did some farming, later in the years his chores consisting of driving to the farm to feed the cats every day. Wayne also loved to play fast-pitch softball. He was a great pitcher and broke several catcher's fingers, he was so fast, but if you asked him to slow down, he would say, "If you catch the ball correctly, it wouldn't hurt or break fingers."

Wayne is survived by his loving wife of 70 years, Coryl Pace of Bedford, Iowa; a daughter, Carole Haidsiak and husband Lynn of Bedford, Iowa; a son, Bob Pace of Bedford, Iowa; three grandchildren, Jennifer Ware and husband Michael of Baxter, Iowa; Cara Hollingworth and husband Mark of Urbandale; and Pamela Bucher and husband Nate of Bedford, Iowa; his six great-grandchildren, Kaitlyn, Hollis, Adrian, Aleighla, Zoe and Jordyn; and a sister, Dorothy Rucker and husband Robert of Bedford, Iowa; along with many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

Wayne is preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Alta Pace; a daughter, Barbara Gordon; a brother, Wilbur Pace; a sister, Kay Spencer; a granddaughter, "Baby Gordon"; and a great-granddaughter, Kendall Kalyn Bucher.

We will forever hold the precious memories of Wayne in our hearts.
May he be at peace in God’s loving care.
