Melissa Gail Decker lived a life which brought joy and smiles to all those that knew her. She passed away on March 22, 2017, surrounded by her closest loved ones, following a brief illness. Melissa was the daughter of longtime Palos Verdes Estates residents, James and Patricia Decker.

Melissa was born on May 4, 1960 in Evanston, Illinois. She was raised in Palos Verdes and was a 1978 graduate of Palos Verdes High School where she was the captain of the tennis team, the head cheerleader and deeply involved in the school and local community. She was a dynamic, high energy personality who had a wide and diverse circle of friends. "Missy" as she was lovingly referred to by many of her family and friends was known for her wondrous, joyful spirit and her ability to make people laugh and smile.

After graduation, she enjoyed a successful career as a sales representative in the women's apparel industry working alongside her father Jim and sister Tracey. She lived for the past 25 years in Marina Del Rey with her devoted partner, Joseph Lundergan. Melissa and Joe shared a common passion for the beach and ocean, and enjoyed frequent trips to their favorite locations of Maui and Catalina.

Melissa was a loving and caring partner, daughter, sister and aunt. She is survived by Joe Lundergan, her parents Jim and Pat Decker, four siblings and their spouses: Vicki Decker Schulze (John), Mark Decker (Carolyn), Tracey Decker Mitofsky (Alan) and Dean Decker (Alyson), and eight nieces and nephews.

A Memorial Mass will be held at 2:00 p.m. on April 21 at St. Lawrence Martyr Catholic Church in Redondo Beach. Donations can be made in Melissa's memory to the Amanda Foundation, a nonprofit animal rescue organization (amandafoundation.org or via mail to the Amanda Foundation, 351 North Foothill Road, Beverly Hills, CA 90210).
