John Fenner, 81, Minot, ND, passed away Saturday, March 25, 2017, at Minot Health and Rehab in Minot.

Johnny Fenner was born May 15, 1935, the son of August and Rosina (Grosz) Fenner, in Drake, ND. He was baptized and confirmed June 26, 1955, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Drake and was raised on the Fenner family farm north of Drake. He attended a nearby country school.

John married Delores A. Hoffer April 15, 1965, in Amarillo, Texas. They made their home in Minot and from this union, two children were born. A daughter, Jonelle Gail was born in 1967 and a son, Daren Paul was born in 1969. He was employed at the City of Minot Waster and Water Department for 35 years before retiring in May 2005.

In 2010, he entered Minot Health and Rehab (formerly ManorCare Health Services). There he made many friends with the residence and staff. While at Minot Health and Rehab, he enjoyed playing bingo, picnics, men’s outings such as going to Walmart and eating out with the guys and listening to music being performed for the residence there. He was always the first one up at 5:30 a.m. drinking his coffee and reading the morning paper.

While he was at home before 2010, he enjoyed watching old westerns, playing whist, the card game, watching The Price is Right especially the game Plinko, and listening every Sunday to Polka Party from Bismarck. He also enjoyed spending time with the family cat, Mittens.

He traveled with his wife Delores before her death in 2008 to Branson, MO, five times.

He was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Minot, and former member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Drake, ND.

His loving family includes: daughter, Jonelle Fenner and her special friend, Bill Christen, Minot; son, Daren Fenner, Minot; brother, Loren Fenner, Minot; sister-in-law, Arlene (Melvin) Hausauer, Minot; brother-in-law, Larry (Bonnie) Hoffer, Fessenden, ND; and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews and cousins.

John was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Delores; sisters, Martha Hoffer, Ella Frey, Esther Hoffer, Hilda Heidt, Rose Rud, and Freida Pepple; brothers, Herman, Arthur and Walter Fenner.
