Mr. Dumas went to be with the Lord on Thursday, March 24, 2017 in Longview, TX. He was born December 4, 1932 in Troup, TX to Pauline and George T. Dumas. Leonard graduated from Carlisle High School in Price, TX. He retired from the U.S. Army Reserve and National Guard after 38 years of faithful service. Leonard was a sports writer for the Marshall News Messenger and then sales manager for Blackburn Syrup. He was very active in the Marshall community, especially at his church First United Methodist where he was a longtime member; he served as chairman of the Art Counsel, enjoyed giving tours during Wonderland of Lights, and volunteering at ETBU.
Leonard was preceded in death by a son, Ron Dumas; grandson, Timothy Dumas; granddaughter, Ashleigh Maranto Anderson; parents, Pauline and Bo Dumas; and brother, Doyle Dumas. He is survived by his wife of 20 years, Patricia Kirkpatrick Dumas; two sons, Joe Dumas and wife Cathi, and Tom Dumas and wife Bobbie Sue; stepchildren, Marchelle Maranto and husband Mark, JoAnna Randolph, Kirk Kirkpatrick and wife Toni, and Kelly Kirkpatrick; as well as numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren; and a host of friends.
Serving as pallbearers will be, Tom and Tony Dumas and Justin and Jonah Sartain, Mark Maranto, and Kirk Kirkpatrick. Honorary pallbearers will be his friends from the National Guard and Reserve Units.
