Goshen Democrat Wednesday, December 10, 1902.
Without any warning whatever
Morgan Butler, aged 80 years and for
27 years past a resident of Goshen
dropped dead as his residence, 511
South Sixth street, at 1:30 o'clock this
afternoon, just after finishing a hearty
dinner. Upon leaving the table, Mr
Butler went to the stable to give some
instructions to Frank Garber, who is
the tenant on the Butler farm near
Middlebury, and who has been at the
residence for a conference on business
matters. Returning to the house he
began getting ready to go to the Bap-
tist church to attend the funeral of
Joseph Edmonds. It was while he was
standing near the window trimming
his finger nails that he sank down on
his knees and expired. He never ut-
tered a sound and when discovered by
Mrs. Butler and her daughter, Miss
Emma, he was dead. Dr. E. E Ash
was called and he expressed the opin-
ion that death was instantaneous.
Mr. Butler had not been subject to
illness and took but very little medi
cine during his lifetime. Heart disease
caused his demise. For some time past
it was evident that he had a weak
heart, yet he never suffered any at-
tacks of a serious nature.

Ohio, May 5,1822. Afterwards. he lo-
cated at New Philadelphia, Ohio, and

came to Goshen. For a long time he
conducted a grocery on South Main
street. Of late years he had been re
tired. Surviving the deceased are his

Beck and the Misses Emma and Jen-
nie Butler, of Goshen; Mrs. J. J.
Thomas and Henry Butler, of Rock
ville, Ind.; and Mrs. Ellen C. Weick-
sel, of Ronovo, Pa. Mr. Butler was
