Christa Coleman
1949-2017
Christa Coleman, who has been a resident of Waxahachie since about 2008, died suddenly on Sunday, March 19, 2017. She was born November 28, 1949, in Weissenberg, Germany, adopted by Johnnie Hansford Coleman and Evelyn Watson Coleman on December 7, 1954, and was brought to their home in Anniston, Alabama. She married James W. Peevey on November 25, 1970, in Houston. They had two children, James W. Peevey, Jr. and, Gwen Peevey Haley. Christa was known as Christa Peevey when she worked as a secretary for m any years before retiring from the City of Houston. During her retirement in Waxahachie, she was known as Christa Coleman. She enjoyed cooking, especially baking. She also enjoyed needlecrafts, crochet, quilting and sewing. She was always available to give her time to support the needs of her family and many others. She was active in Order of Eastern Star. Christa was a member of Farley Street Baptist Church since her arrival in Waxahachie. Christa is survived by her husband, children, son-in-law, Barry Haley, two grandchildren, Austin and Andrew Harrington, two sisters-in-law-Carolyne Peevey Gunderon and Idabel Peevey Ryan, nephews, nieces and other family and friends. She was preceded in death by her adoptive parents and her adopted brother, Johnnie Hansford Coleman, Jr., as well as her stepfather Howard Streich. Services will be held on Monday March 26, 2017 at South Belt Church, 13100 Beamer Road. Visitation will be at10:00 a.m. followed by funeral service at 12:00 noon. Burial will take place at South Park Cemetery, 1310 Main St., Pearland.
