From Schaetter Funeral Home:

Mr. Werner William Bauer of Stonewall, Texas passed away on Friday March 24th at his home at the age of 91 years.

Werner was born on January 20, 1926, in Gillespie County, to Adolf G. Bauer and Alma Stahl Bauer. He married Cora Müller Bauer on September 10, 1960 in Holy Ghost Lutheran Church in Fredericksburg, and she survives.

Werner spent his early years growing up on the family farm and ranch near Albert, Texas, and he attended the Albert School through the 8th grade. He spent his entire life on the farm and ranch where he grew small grain and hay and raised cattle, sheep and pigs. Werner also hired out to do custom farming early in his career and was happiest when he was either on a tractor or checking his livestock. He also enjoyed being a part of the old tractor and farm implement shows that were held each summer, helping his boys with baseball and 4-H, and cheering on his grandchildren at stock shows.

In addition to his wife, Cora, Werner is survived by his sons and their spouses, Stephen and Mary Beth of Harper, Texas and Chris and Kimberly of Fredericksburg, Texas along with his grandchildren, Lance Bauer and Leah Bauer, both of College Station, Texas.

Werner was preceded in death by his parents and by his brothers, Elgin Bauer, Martin Bauer, Chester Bauer, Rudie Bauer and Kurt Bauer.

Pallbearers included Lance Bauer, Paul Cherry, Jared Itz, Myron Uecker, Patrick Stahl and Craig Grona.

The family would like to extend their thanks to both the Windcrest Nursing Home staff and the HCM Hospice nurses and staff for their outstanding care and compassion.

Memorials may be made to Hill Country Memorial Hospice, the Stonewall Volunteer Fire Department, or Holy Ghost Lutheran Church.

His body will lie in state in the Chapel of the Schaetter Funeral Home from 7 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. on Tuesday March 28th and from 1:30-2:30 in Holy Ghost Church with Funeral Services at 2:30 with Rev. David Priem officiating.

Graveside services and interment will follow in the Greenwood Cemetery.

Visitation will be held on Monday March 27th from 5 to 7 in the Chapel of the Schaetter Funeral Home.
