Barbara Andresen Mead passed away peacefully on March 19, 2017, at her residence in Oak Ridge, TN.

She was surrounded by her family as they sang "Amazing Grace." She was 84 years old.

Barbara suffered from dementia which contributed to her decline in health and her passing.

She was born in Superior, Wisconsin on September 23, 1932, to Irene DeVinck and Olaf Andresen.

She graduated from Central High School in 1950 and graduated from Wisconsin State College in 1954 with a BS degree.

She taught elementary school. She married Dr Charles G. Mead on June 18, 1954 and they were married for 55 years before Charlie passed away in 2009.
They had 8 children together, and lived in Oak Ridge, TN and Rockwood, TN, on Watts Bar Lake. Barbara loved her children and family very much; She did the best she could with what she had.

She loved the game of tennis and played until she was 80 years old; she entertained her friends and family, as she loved to be the center of attention, with many hobbies of clogging, accordion and piano playing, her love of games, especially Scrabble and bridge.

She was adjunct faculty member for Roane State Community College until she was in her 70's.

Barbara is survived by her sister, Jean Van Buren, of Mesa, Arizona; nieces, Kathy Aro Stoffrefen and Nancy Aro Austin; nephews, Tom and Dave Aro; aunts, Lorraine DeVinck Frailey, Elaine DeVinck; cousin, Bill Andresen and wife, Judy. She is also survived by son, Charles H. Mead, of Knoxville, and his son Charlie Mead; ( a daughter Peggy M. Mausshardt- deceased) Dave Mausshardt, of Florida, and their two sons, Nick and Cory Cotter; son, Dr. George O. Mead and his wife, Donna, of Crossville, and their children Heidi, George Allen and Hillary; son, James B. Mead and wife, Karen, of Powell, and their children Thomas, Brent and Kaylee; son, Willard A. Mead and wife, Beth, of Knoxville and their children, Emily and Kellie; (son Andrew R. Mead- deceased); daughter, Dianne M. Hawk and Lewis, of Cookeville and their children, Gaven and Lena; son, Warren T. Mead, of California. Also surviving are five great-grandchildren, Annika, Zane, Quinn, Rowan and Arissa.

She will be missed by her many family and friends.

Cremation through East Tennessee Mortuary Services.

The immediate family will have a private memorial service.
