Graveside services for Alvin R. Carthel, 84, former Lockney resident, will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday in Lockney Cemetery with J Henderson, minister at 11th and Amarillo Church of Christ in Plainview, officiating.
Burial arrangements are by Griffin Funeral Home in Hobbs.
Mr. Carthel died Monday, July 19, 1999, in Lea Regional Medical Center.
He was born Sept. 12, 1914, in Lockney, the son of the late Ross and Carrie Carthel. He grew up in the Cedar Hill community and attended schools in Cedar Hill and Lone Star. He worked as a carpenter, cowboy and several types of jobs. He loved horses.
His wife, Cecile Carthel, died June 28, 1999.
Survivors include a son, Wes Carthel of Hobbs; a brother, Les Carthel of Oklahoma; a sister, Bernice McCurdy of Plainview; seven grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. He has several cousins living in the Lockney area.
A daughter, Waunella Hall, died in 1997 and a brother, Bud Carthel, died in 1941.
