Gerald "Jerry" Spencer, 74, of Parkersburg, passed away March 23, 2017 at Camden Clark Medical Center.

He was born March 21, 1943 in Charleston, WV, the son of the late Elden Edwin and Marybelle George Spencer.

Jerry was a 1961 graduate of PHS and received his masters in Education from WVU where he served as captain on the gymnastics team his junior and senior years. He was also voted athlete of the year his junior and senior years in the yearbook. He began his 34 year career teaching Biology, Health and Physical Education at PSHS and later retired at PHS.

Jerry built Glendale Gymnastics, the first private gym in the state of WV where he worked for the past 43 years. He is in the Mid Ohio Valley Sports Hall of Fame and was an active member in the Parkersburg Scottish Rite.

He is survived by his wife, Danette "Danny" Cain Spencer; three sons, Lance Clark (Hrabrina) Spencer of Huntington, Drew Edwin Spencer and Matthew Joseph (Lashauna) Spencer both of Parkersburg; two sisters; Shirlene Hartshorn (Jack) of Williamstown and Maryln Davis (William) of Greensburg, PA; one brother, Thomas George Spencer (Pam) of Las Vegas, NV; three grandchildren, Danika Jeroldine, Caden Clark, and Ashlyn Anora Spencer; along with a host of other relatives and many special friends.

Funeral services for Jerry will be at 11:00 A.M., Tuesday, March 28, 2017 at Lambert-Tatman Funeral Home, 3005 Grand Central Ave, Vienna, WV with, Reverend Thomas E. Stevens officiating. Burial will follow the service at Evergreen North Cemetery.
