Mrs. Pearce, age 78, died March 23, 2017 at Sharon Towers. She was born on August 16, 1938, in Charlotte, NC. She was the daughter of the late Nannie Lee and Robert Brown (Nan and Bob). She was also preceded in death by her beloved husband of 48 years, Benjamin McCoy Pearce.

The family moved to Fort Mill, SC, where she grew up. She graduated from the Fort Mill High School in 1958 and Erskine College in 1962. She taught school in the Chester County (SC) Public Schools before joining the Clemson Extension Service as the Home Demonstration Agent in Horry County, SC. She left the Extension Service in the summer of 1968 to make and extended solo trip around the world. Her travels took her to San Francisco and Honolulu in the US before visiting the major foreign cities of Tokyo, Hong Kong, Bangkok and New Delhi, India where she remained for 4 months and toured much of that country. After leaving New Delhi, she continued her trip with stops in Beirut, Athens, Cairo, Rome and London before returning to Fort Mill where she taught for the spring semester in the public schools until her marriage to Benjamin M. Pearce in June of 1969. They settled in Charlotte where she became very active in the programs of Covenant Presbyterian Church. She served as President of the Women of the Church and received an Honorary Life Membership in 1983. When her family was older she returned to the work force; joining the staff of Covenant as the Director of Women’s Programs and New Member Enlistment. She continued in that capacity until her retirement in 2001. Although retired, she remained very active in the programs of Covenant. She was also active in local DAR activities, serving as Regent of the Liberty Hall Chapter from 2007 to 2009.

Mrs. Pearce is survived by her son, James Chapman Pearce, II and wife, Valerie; three grandchildren, Elizabeth Susanne Pearce and the twins, Alexandra Nicole Pearce and Benjamin M. Pearce, II, all of whom live in Hampstead. She is also survived by two sisters, Sallye P. Brown of Matthews, NC and Judith Brown Park of Vero Beach, FL. Also surviving are the children of Judith Park, Robert Randall and wife, Jeannine, of Pittsboro, NC; Susan McNair Randall of Bethlehem, PA, and Anne Randall Baxter and husband, Joe, and their daughter, Anabel, of Flemington, NJ. She is also survived by numerous cousins in the Charlotte area and beyond.

A memorial service will be held to celebrate her life at 1:00 pm on March 31, 2017 at Covenant Presbyterian Church, 1000 E. Morehead Street, Charlotte, NC with the Reverend Dr. Joan Watson officiating. The family will receive guests after the service.
