SUSAN McLEAN ANTHONY

* I am adding a letter to the photo section in 3 parts. It was written by her brother, Charles Durell McLean, on the occasion of their mother's death in 1826. It tells of their parents' births/places/dates, their ancestry, their lives, & their deaths/places/dates. *

Susan McLean married "William Banks Anthony" (1775 Va--1815 LA) in 1800 TN.

William went-by "Banks". He & Susan raised their children @ Gallatin, Sumner Co., TN. Susan's relatives lived near there.

Banks was in the TN Militia. He died on 1-8-1815 during The Battle of New Orleans in The War of 1812. He was one of either 8 or 13 US soldiers who died that day.

Banks' youngest brother, Charles Anthony, saw Banks riding up to the family home near Evington, VA one afternoon...Banks vanished before his eyes...the family learned days later that on the day Charles had seen Banks riding home was actually the day he died in battle.

Susan went & lived-with her daughter, Amanda Anthony m: Brodie, & her husband Loddie in Fayetteville, Washington Co., AR until she died in 1839. It is thought that she is buried in the same cemetery where Amanda is buried.

SUSAN & BANKS' 9 CHILDREN:
(8 Daughters & 1 Son)
-Amelia Anthony
-Sarah Ann Anthony
-Levinia Anthony
-Matilda Gabril Anthony
-Amanda Malvina Anthony m: Lodowick Brodie
-Albert Banks Anthony
-Julia Anthony
-Harriet Austin Anthony m: William A. Summers
-Elizabeth Madeline Anthony.

SUSAN lost her father (1816) & husband (1815) within one year of each other.
