William (Don) Donald Horner

87, of Speedway, passed away on March 23, 2017. He was born on April 4, 1929 in Indianapolis, IN to Harold Richard and Gladys (Bailey) Horner. Don attended Howe High School graduating in 1947; he attended Purdue University prior to enlisting in the Marine Corps in 1948. Don married the love of his life, Barbara (Klooz) Horner, on July 4, 1953. He is survived by his brother David (Barbara) Horner; children, Becky (Joe) Wesling, Donnie Horner, Kim (Jim) Kojetin, Danny (Shelley) Horner, Bernice Stroup, Darlene (Jerry) Cooper; 17 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren. Don was preceded in death by Barbara, his spouse of 60 years; his parents; brother, Dick Horner; great-grandson, Nicholas Wesling.
Don retired from Allison Transmission in 1992 after nearly 40 years of service. He spent the next 20 years volunteering for the Red Cross of Indiana, being named volunteer of the year several times. As a charter member of St. Gabriel the Archangel Catholic Church he found time to volunteer with Catholic Social Services as well as helping with the exterior maintenance of the grounds. He loved to go camping with his family, especially to Lake Michigan for boating on Little Jack, and spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
