Marion Poitevint Hicks, 87, of Opelika, AL, passed away Thursday, March 23, 2017.
The graveside funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, March 26, 2017 at Oak City Cemetery with Dr. Gerald Little and Dr. Karl Kling officiating. A visitation will be held at First United Methodist Church in Opelika on Monday, March 27, 2017 from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. CST.

Marion was born December 19, 1929 in Headland, AL, the daughter of Phillip Oid and Lena Kinsaul Creel. She married Dr. Ottis L. Poitevint in December 1950. Marion graduated from Auburn University in 1951 with a Bachelors Degree in Education. She was a cheerleader and member of Delta Zeta Sorority. While Ottis was finishing vet school, Marion worked in the Registrar's Office and for Dean Cater at Auburn. In 1954, Ottis and Marion moved to Dothan, AL so Ottis could join his brother, Dr. Coy H. Poitevint, in his veterinary practice. In 1955 they moved to Bainbridge, GA where Ottis opened a veterinary practice and Marion worked there as well. While in Bainbridge, she also taught English and Business Education at Bainbridge High School, West Bainbridge High School and Climax High School. Marion was a member of First Baptist Church of Bainbridge where she sang in choir, many times offering a solo piece, and also played the piano. In 1973 she helped start the BHS Band Flag Corps. She was a member of Bainbridge Jr. Women's Club.
After Ottis' death in 1972, Marion married William H. "Billy" Mayo in 1974 and moved to Cairo, GA. After Billy's death in 1980 she moved to Auburn in 1982 and became the SAE Fraternity's Housemother. She married Dr. Warren H. "Buddy" Hicks in June of 1983. She was a member of First United Methodist Church of Opelika. She loved serving the Lord there playing the piano. She played most of her life and played for the morning worship services at First United Methodist Church. She also served on the Greeting Committee. Marion loved the Auburn Tigers and she and Buddy spent time traveling with the Tigers to football games. They were members of Tigers Unlimited. For many years, Marion and Buddy owned and operated "Attic Antiques" in Auburn.
Her children and grandchildren were her pride and joy and she spent much time with them. She was one of a kind. If you had a chance to know her, you would never forget her or her spunk. She was so determined and had so much strength and shared so much love for her family.
Survivors include her children, Angela P. Taylor and her husband, Jimmy, of Macon, GA and Stephen P. Poitevint and his wife, Christy, of Bainbridge, GA; her grandchildren, Lindsay Mabry and her husband, Milam, of Austin, TX, Melissa Taylor of Macon, GA, Jimmy Taylor of Athens, GA, Phillip Poitevint and his wife, Whitney, of Huntsville, AL, Jordan Gilbert and her husband, Taylor, of Bainbridge, GA, and Preston Poitevint also of Bainbridge, GA; and her great-grandchildren, Ben Mabry and Margaret Mabry of Austin, TX. Marion was preceded in death by her parents, Phillip Oid and Lena K. Creel; and her husbands, Dr. Ottis L. Poitevint, William H. "Billy" Mayo, and Dr. Warren H. "Buddy" Hicks.
