Covington, TN - William "Billy" H. Adkerson, a native of Covington, TN died March 21, 2017 in Mobile, AL where he had been living for the past 8 years, was born September 18, 1936 in Lauderdale County, TN to the late James H. and Maude E. Jennings Adkerson. He served as Minister of Education/Church Administrator in numerous churches covering a 41-year span from 1963 until 2004 including churches in, Joanna, SC, Clinton, NC, Mobile, AL, and Winston-Salem, NC. He became the Executive Director for the Bethesda Center for the Homeless Inc, in Winston-Salem, NC from 1992-2007. Along with his parents, James and Maude Adkerson, Mr. Adkerson was predeceased by his wife, Janet Southall Adkerson in 2003 after almost 45 years of marriage. He is survived by his loving daughters: Lori Adkerson, St. Petersburg, Florida; Suzanne Adkerson Nestor, Mocksville, NC; Amanda Adkerson Hostetler (John), Charleston, South Carolina and three loving grandchildren who adored their Pa Paw: Garrett, Mocksville, NC; Megan and John William, Charleston, SC and wife, Gwendolyn Rush Creel Adkerson, Mobile, AL. In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorials be made to The Janet Adkerson Benevolence Fund at The Children's Center for Exceptional Children 2315 Coliseum Drive, Winston, Salem, NC 27106 or The Bethesda Center for the Homeless. 930 Patterson Avenue, Winston-Salem, NC 27101.
