Nathan Moon is the son of Thomas Moon (son of Ebenezer Moon, III and his wife Elizabeth Deake). The father, Thomas, is known to have lived in Rutland County, Vermont; Wayne and Ontario Counties, New York; and finally in Machias, Cattaraugus, New York. Mrs. Thomas Moon's name is unknown. She is not Lydia Bly.

Nathan's grandson is buried in Jones Cemetery, Patoka, Marion, Illinois, and some family records show Fanny/Fenny is buried there as well. Other grandchildren appear to be buried in Evergreen Cemetery, Kinmundy, Marion, Illinois.

Nathan lived in Marion County, Illinois for the 1850 census but returned to Wales to live with his daughter Esther Moon Wood.
