Alfred Frank Sarah Prettyman was the son of James Edward Prettyman (1842-1917) and Elizabeth Maria Sarah (1851-1928) He was the husband of Jessie Beatrice Daw of Greenspond, Newfoundland Canada. Alfred was just 43 years old at the time of his death leaving behind a wife and a daughter who was just 17 years of age. Jessie and their young daughter Alice Margaret "Maggie," returned to Newfoundland after the passing of their loving husband and father.

Alfred was a master mariner and he was lost at Dolman Point. The schooner, Katie Cluett missed stays and drove ashore on the Dodman while bound from Falmouth to Pentewan in ballast. She broke up in heavy seas, but the captain was drowned before he could reach the rocks."
