GRANDFIELD, Okla. - Ernest T. Abbott, 84, of Wichita Falls, formerly of Grandfield, passed away Wednesday, Jan. 31, 2007, in Wichita Falls.

Services will be at 2:30 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 3, 2007, in the Gray Funeral Home Chapel, Grandfield, with Dr. Bob Burch pastor of the First Baptist Church, Grandfield, officiating. Interment will be in the Grandfield Memorial Cemetery under the direction of Gray Funeral Home, Grandfield.

Mr. Abbott was born Oct. 14, 1922, of Grandfield to Seth A. and Nora Townsen Abbott. He grew up and attended school in Grandfield, graduating from Grandfield High School in 1941. Following high school, he joined the United States Army Air Force on March 2, 1943, and served during World War II. He was honorably discharged on Feb. 21, 1946. He attended North Texas University in Denton, Texas. He then returned to Grandfield and began to farm with his father. He continued farming for many years until his retirement. He married Ydelle Kirkpatrick on Nov. 16, 1979, in Wichita Falls. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Grandfield.

He is survived by his wife of the home; one son, David Abbott of Dallas; one step-son, Darren Kirkpatrick and his wife, Dana, of Wichita Falls; three daughters, Sharron Daugherty and her husband, Buster, of Grandfield, Kathy Mosman and her husband, Steve, of Georgia, Vt.; three step-daughters, Sue Herring and her husband, Paul, of Denton, Texas, Debbie Bradley and her husband, Chuck, of Wichita Falls, and Dede McCauley and her husband, Eddie, of Wichita Falls; two sisters, Frances Murray of Towson, Md., and Esther Kirkman and her husband, Neil, of Rockport, Texas; 13 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Leslie Abbott; a step-brother, T.L. Wilman; a sister, Valarie Kaylor; and a step-sister, Virgie Roberts.

Memorial contributions may be made to the First Baptist Church, 101 E. 3rd Street, Grandfield 73546, or to the American Hospice, 4210 Kell Blvd., Suite 211, Wichita Falls 76309.

A visitation will be from 6 until 8 p.m. on Friday evening at the funeral home
