Jane Lee Wells, 94, of Jeffersonville passed away on Wednesday, March 22, 2017, at Westminster Health Care Center in Clarksville, IN. She was born March 30, 1922 in Louisville, KY. Jane was a long time educator, working as a teacher at Smyrna Elementary School and Fairdale High School in Louisvile and culminating her career as Director of Reading for the New Albany/Floyd County School System from 1965 through 1991. She was a graduate of Atherton High School in Louisville, continuing her education at the University of Louisville (BA) and Indiana University (Masters and beyond). Besides her love of reading, she also enjoyed traveling the world with visits not only to all the United States but going as far as China and Peru. Additionally she was owner and CEO of the Lee Almanac Company, a publishing company, started over seventy-five years ago by her father. Jane was preceded in death by her parents, Theodore A. Lee and Blanche Stivers Lee, and her loving husband, David Rand Wells, Sr. Left to cherish her memory is her brother, Theodore Lee, Jr.; her son David Rand Wells, Jr. (Peggy) and daughter Candace Lee Griffin (Ken); five grandchildren, Nicholas and Janna Wells, David, Gregory and Trevor Griffin and seven great grandchildren. Visitation will be held from 12 PM to 2 PM Friday, March 24, 2017 at the Gehlbach & Royse Funeral Home in Corydon, In. Following the visitation there will be a graveside service at Cave Hill Cemetery in Louisville, KY. The family suggests memorial gifts be made to the Susan G. Komen For The Cure.
