Matthew Allen Gibson, age 38, of Warrensburg, Missouri, passed away Saturday, March 18, 2017 in Springfield, Missouri from a motorcycle accident. He was born December 9, 1978 in Jonesboro, Arkansas, the son of Jeffrey and Teresa (Dillahunt) Gibson. He attended elementary school in Jonesboro, Arkansas and middle school in Cardwell, Missouri. He graduated from Warrensburg High School where he excelled in academics and athletics, lettering in football. He continued his love of outdoor sports his entire life. He attended the University of Missouri where he studied engineering and played rugby. He then transferred to the University of Central Missouri and majored in aviation. He was employed by UCM.
Matt was the perfect epitome of an avid outdoorsman. He was “all boy.” He loved shooting at the gun range, hiking the mountains of Colorado, repairing old cars, and riding motorcycles. He was part of the local motorcycle riding group, the Dirty Burg Powersports. Matt was a loving and kind son. He would do anything for his family and willingly made great sacrifices for them. He was greatly adored by his parents, sister, brother-in-law, nieces, nephews, and all who knew him.
Matt is survived by his parents, Jeff and Teresa, of Warrensburg; a sister, Kara Camp and husband, Aaron, of a U.S. Air Force Base in England; a niece, Katie Holifield; nephews, Caleb, Corbin, and Cooper Camp; and a niece, Carolina Camp.
Matt was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Archie and Mary Dillahunt; and paternal grandparents, Henry and Sylvia Gibson.
Funeral services will be held at 3 PM on Thursday, March 23 at Grover Park Baptist Church with the Dr. Randy Neal officiating. Pallbearers will be Joshua Gibson, Joshua Beasley, Luke Hollingsworth, David Renck, Daniel Stair, and Aaron Haught. Honorary pallbearers will be Greg and Randal Gibson, and Austin Kocker. The family will receive friends from 1:30 PM until service time on Thursday at the church.
Interment will be held Saturday, March 25 at 11 AM in McGrew Cemetery in Senath, MO.
