Janet Louise Bates, 93, Marion, passed away in her home at 2:55 p.m. on Monday, March 20, 2017. She was born on September 8, 1923, in Bellevue, Pennsylvania, to the late William and Elizabeth Nelson Fleming. On June 23, 1945, Janet married Milton B. Bates, III.

Janet was previously employed by the Grant County Cancer Services. She expressed the love of Jesus Christ by caring for her family and serving through the church.

Surviving are children, Louise (Ed) Furnas, Mooresville, Janet Elaine Bates, Marion, Nancy (Rick) Jett, Noblesville, Jim (Donna) Bates, Kansas, and Sylvia Brooks, Brownsburg, loved as her own; daughter-in-law, Cathy Bates (Jay) Lamberth, New Mexico; grandchildren, Karen (Gary) Fry, Jeanne (Joel) Otto, Michelle (David) Poole, Jennifer (David) Aduddell, Emily (Rob) Bell, Richard (Tiffany) Jett, Rachel (Josh) Hutson, Peter Bates, Kerri (Derek) Jackson, and Jonathan Bates; great-grandchildren, Jessica and Kristina Fry, Lauren, Marissa, and Caleb Otto, Micah and Jaden Poole, Allison and Sophie Bell, Kyler and Kenzie Jett, and Rubie Hutson; and nieces, Carol Lee and Linda Fatigante.

Janet was predeceased by her husband; her son, Paul; sisters, Mary Bea Stringert and Flora Fleming; and niece, Shirley Zierden.

Visitation is from 10 a.m. to 12 noon on Friday, March 24, 2017, at Unity Christian Church, 140 N. Pennsylvania, Marion. Janet's service will begin at 12 noon with Pastor Rick Jett officiating. Burial will be at Gardens of Memory, Huntington County.
