Born at the Women's Hospital at 141 West 109th St in New York City. Her home was at 42 W. Hudson Ave, Englewood, New Jersey. Her family moved to California when she was approximately six years old. She spent much of her early life in Pasadena, California, graduating from Pasadena Junior College. She met her future husband, William Leroy "Roy" Horton, in CA where he was stationed with the US Navy. Her family moved back to New Jersey, which is where she was when she married Mr. Horton. After the wedding, they moved to Savannah GA, where he was from.
