Services will be held at 2:00 P.M., Thursday, February 1, 2007, at First United Methodist Church, Baird, Texas, with Rev. Sandra Keith officiating. Interment will follow at Ross Cemetery Annex. Services are under the direction of Parker Funeral Home.
Joe was born January 25, 1919, the youngest of twelve children, to John Anderson Harris and Mary Selena Ripple Harris in Trinidad, Texas. He attended schools in Lometa, Texas. Joe served in the European Theater during WWII, first in the US Army Air Corp, and then in the Army infantry. He had resided in Baird since 1947, working on various ranches including the McFarland Ranch, the Hugh Ross Ranch, and for Tommy Donnell. He married Cubelle Loper at the Methodist Parsonage in Baird, Texas, on December 10, 1955. He had been a long-time member of the Callahan County Sheriff's Posse and a charter member of The Shady Oaks Golf Course.
Joe was preceded in death by four brothers and six sisters.
He is survived by his wife, Cubelle Harris of Baird; his son, Wally Harris and his wife, Sue, of Midland, Texas; three grandchildren, Jason Harris and his wife, Brenda, of Albuquerque, New Mexico, Gina Johnson and her husband, Steve, of Las Cruces, New Mexico, and Traci Harris of Odessa, Texas; and five great-grandchildren, including Corey Harris, Justin and Erica Harris, and Kristen and Tyler Johnson. He is also survived by his sister Verna Conner of Valley Mills, Texas, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
The family requests that memorials be made in Joe's honor to the charity of their choice.
