Parker, Ramona J., 83, homemaker, died March 21. Celebration of life 2 p.m. Friday (Resthaven, Oklahoma City).

Published in The Oklahoman, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, Wednesday, March 22, 2017, Page 7A.

Ramona Jean Parker was born June 17, 1933, to Carl and Beatrice Warner in Fairview, OK.

She started school at Moundview and attended Cheyenne Valley High School where she was in Glee Club and Basketball. She met Harlin Barnum in high school, and fell in love. She graduated in 1950 and they were married July 27 of that same year.

They lived in Medford, OK, where Harlin was a farmhand, then moved to Enid where their first child was born. Then to Oklahoma City where 3 more children were born.

Ramona was a housewife until all the children were in school then helped Harlin run his businesses: a service station, Ka-Bar Heat & Air, and Barney and Son Tire and Auto in Guthrie and later in Sand Springs, OK. They worked hard and fished a lot, looking forward to retirement when they would travel. Harlin passed away in 1993.

In 1994, Ramona married Dean Parker and moved to Wichita, KS. She started a new life, adding another loving family to her existing one. They traveled, spent winters in South Texas, and went to yard sales every week.

Dean passed away in July, 2010. Ramona stayed in Wichita until 2014, when she moved to Harrah to live with her eldest daughter until her passing at home on March 21, 2017.

When asked her occupation, her reply was housewife and mother. She was a loving daughter, wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother, sister, cousin and friend. and will be greatly missed.

Ramona is survived by 4 children and their spouses: Glenda and Larry Goodwin of Harrah, OK, Sherin and Mac McDaniel of Guthrie, OK, Audrey and Robert Stewart of Guthrie, OK and Curtis and Carla Barnum of Sand Springs, OK. Four Step-Children and their spouses: Calvin and Vona Parker, of Iola, KS, Sheryl and Shawn Batt of Wichita, KS, Mary and Mike Fussell of Haysville, KS, and Ruth and Clint Morgan of Belle Plaine, KS. 21 grandchildren, 35 great grandchildren and one great, great grandchild. One sister and her husband: Karlene and Jim Pembrook. and nieces, nephews, and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Carl and Beatrice Warner, Husbands Harlin Barnum and Dean Parker,

Ramona was a wonderful example of a Proverbs 31 woman. She was up early to prepare her family for the day, worked all day caring for the home and working with her husband, and up late doing whatever needed to be done. She made most all of the clothes her daughters wore, helped her family with homework, transportation, etc. And most importantly taught them to love the LORD. While her family thought she was ignoring problems, she was praying, waiting to see how the Lord was going to see her through them.

She enjoyed cooking, sewing, crafts and quilting. The last few years she helped visit shut-ins and delivered tapes of the Sunday sermon. She was active with a group of women in her church that did quilting to raise support for women's ministry and to bless women in need. She loved being around family and friends.
She was active in her community and church by volunteering for whatever needed to be done, helping with flood victims, voter registration, cooking for shut-ins, etc.
Services to celebrate Ramona’s life will be held 2:00 pm Friday, March 24, 2017 at The Chapel at Resthaven (500 SW 104th St. Oklahoma City, OK 73139) with interment to follow at Resthaven Memory Gardens.
