Henry Clay Walters, 83, of Elkin died Sunday, March 19, 2017, at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem. Mr. Walters was born Dec. 26, 1933, in Surry County to the Rev. George and Nettie Renegar Walters.

Mr. Walters was a graduate of Elkin High School and retired as a supervisor of the blending department at Chatham Manufacturing. He was a lifelong member of Elkin Valley Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon. Mr. Walters was a past scout leader and volunteered with Feed the Elderly.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Bill Walters, and two sisters, Myrtle Newman and Betty Jo Swaim.

Survivors include his wife of 64 years, Shirley H. Walters of the home; two sons, Scott Walters and wife, Beth, of Elkin and Jeffrey Clay Walters and wife, Claudette, of Mooresville; four grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, March 23, 2017, at 2 p.m. at Elkin Valley Baptist Church, with Dr. Johnny Blevins officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends Wednesday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Elkin Funeral Service.

The family requests that memorials be made to Elkin Valley Baptist Church Building Fund, 118 North Elkin Drive, Elkin, N.C. 28621.
