Charles McCabe served as Chaplain of the 122nd Ohio Infantry in the Civil War.

He was appointed on Oct 8, 1862 for 3 years at the age of 26. He resigned on Jan 8, 1864 for a physical disability.

In the 1880 census of Chicago, IL Charles is listed as a 44 year old minister born in Ohio in 1836 residing with his wife Rebecca P. McCabe age 42 born in Ohio and their children.

On July 18, 1904 he received an Army Invalid Pension for his service in the Civil War, and following his death, his wife Rebecca received an Army Widows Pension beginning on April 30, 1908.

When Charles died on Dec 19, 1906 in New York City, his death certificate stated he was a 70 year old Minester born in Ohio in 1836 and buried in Illinois on Nov 21, 1906.

Note: Member #48139491 has provided the following information: Charles McCabe was captured during the Battle of the Wilderness, VA and was imprisoned for 4 months in the notorious Libby Prison in Richmond, VA.
