Virginia Beach, VA. - On June 9, 2016, Cynthia Yvette Johnson Bloom was called home to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. She was the eldest child of the late Edward L. Johnson Sr. and Marian Johnson Carter. As a Norfolk native, she received her formal education in the Norfolk City School System and was a graduate of Booker T. Washington's Class of 1960. She furthered her studies at Norfolk State College. Her religious education began at St. Joseph's and layer at St. Mary's Catholic Churches. For many years she was employed by the Federal Government. During this time she met and married the love of her life Willie Bloom Jr. Cynthia enjoyed cooking, singing, dancing, with "Bill" and long walks on the beach. During her husband's years of Military Service Cynthia would bridge the gap by working a civil service job while taking care of their three children and putting family first always. Left to cherish her memories are her beloved mother, Marian Johnson Carter; her husband, Willie "Bill" Bloom, Jr.; her three children, Angela Bloom- Hewett, Constance Bloom, and Timothy Bloom; her grandchildren Justin Underwood, Johnathan Bloom, Timothy Bloom, Jr., Anissa Hewett and Aiden Bloom; her siblings, Zella Barnett (Stanley) and Tina Tarpley (Ray). She was predeceased by her father, Edward, Sr.; brothers, Edward Jr., William and Ronald Johnson. Cynthia will be missed by her numerous nieces, nephews, and other family members. Thank you to the Doctors and Staff of Portsmouth Naval and Norfolk Sentara General Hospital for the kindness and care shown to her during her illness. On Monday the 20th of June, a Viewing will be 1pm.. to 6pm. and Wake Service will be from 6p.m. to 7p.m. and fellowship from 7p.m. to 8p.m. in the Graves Funeral Home Chapel. A Mass of Christian burial will be held on Tuesday, June 21, 2016 at The Basilica of St. Mary of the Immaculate Conception, 232 Chapel Street, Norfolk at 11:00a.m. Reverend James Curran presiding. Interment will be in Albert G. Horton Jr. Memorial Veteran Cemetery. Graves Funeral Home is in Charge.
