Stephen M. Frank, Sr., 74, of Spicer, died Saturday evening, March 18, at the St. Cloud Hospital surrounded by family.

Stephen “Steve” Michael Frank, Sr. was born on June 6, 1942, in Sauk Centre, Minnesota, the son of Joseph and Kathryn (Schwarzbauer) Frank. He grew up in Minneapolis, graduated from DeLaSalle High School in 1960 and from Dunwoody Vocational School in 1962. On September 14, 1963, Steve was united in marriage to Janet Ritter. To this union, two sons were born, Stephen, Jr. and Todd. Steve was employed as a welder at Electric Machinery Company, FMC Corporation, 3M, Bellanca Aircraft Company, and taught welding at Dunwoody Vocational School. In 1972, the family moved to Willmar where Steve taught welding at Willmar Technical College for 30 years. His love for art and welding combined into a family business of metal sculpting until 2015.

Steve was active with youth sports, coaching basketball and hockey, and was a scout leader. He loved teaching and was very proud of his students and enjoyed his co-workers. He cherished time spent traveling with his family and enjoyed fishing with his boys. He treasured his home on George Lake that he shared with family and friends. Steve had a profound love for God. He was baptized in Sauk Centre and was a member of Our Lady of the Lakes Catholic Church in Spicer.

He is survived by his loving wife, Janet of Spicer; two sons, Stephen, Jr. (and Chris) Frank of New London and Todd Frank (and fiancée Sara Hall) of Minneapolis; and three grandchildren, Hayley, Jacob and Rebekah Frank. Also surviving are his siblings, Joann Braun of Edina, Tom (and Karen) Frank of Northfield and Greg Frank of Dundas; siblings-in-law, Ordell Ritter of Chokio, Francis (and Sandi) Ritter of Lakeville, and Marianne Thompson of Minneapolis; as well as many nieces, nephews, other relatives, friends, and his dog, Scooter.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his father and mother in-law, Charles and Florence Ritter, a brother-in-law, Fran Braun, a sister-in-law Carol Ritter, and his aunt, Marie Schwarzbauer.
