Sharon Jordan English, 68, went home to be with the Lord on March 4, 2017 following a brief illness in Woonsocket, R.I. By her side were her life partner of 24 years, Phillip "Phil" Collins, and her beloved daughter Larilee English.

Sharon was born on April 13, 1948 to H. Oliver "Tim" Jordan and Theda Davis Jordan of Bernard, Maine. She graduated from Pemetic High School in Southwest Harbor in 1966.

As a young adult, she worked at two sardine factories on Mount Desert Island: the Wm. Underwood Co. in Bass Harbor, and the Stinson Factory in Southwest Harbor. She loved her coworkers and was known for her speed, making her a prized employee. She held several other jobs on the island, from housekeeping to hospital dietary work and more.

In the late 1960s Sharon met Larry English, a teacher at Tremont Consolidated School, and they married in 1969. They raised two children: daughter Larilee and son Oliver, known to all as "Punky."

After the children grew older, Sharon went back to work. The family moved to Manset, where Sharon became the Postmaster and Larry operated a tax preparation business.

Several years later they built a home in Seal Cove. Not long after, Larry lost his battle with cancer.

Following Larry's passing, Sharon returned to work once again. She was employed at the Summit House Nursing Home in Bar Harbor, where she became a certified nursing assistant. She loved the patients and residents, and they loved her. In addition to her work as a CNA, she maintained several house cleaning jobs for longtime clients who admired her strong work ethic and her meticulousness. She also did home health aide work from time to time.

Sharon met Phillip "Phil" Collins in 1993 through mutual friends. They developed their own special friendship and fell in love. Wintering in Phil's home in Pascoag, R.I., and summering in Sharon's home in Seal Cove, they were together through thick and thin.

Sharon had a close and special relationship with her beloved aunt and uncle, June and Rolla Thompson. She was especially close to June and Rolla's daughters, Marilyee and Spring. They were the sisters Sharon never had. Sharon also loved spending time with her dear friend, Phyllis Crocket.

Sharon had a beautiful smile, bright blue eyes, and sweet rosy checks. She was wickedly witty and had a great sense of humor. She loved to laugh, dance, sing, listen to oldies music, and she and Phil loved watching classic movies together.

Sharon enjoyed cooking, grilling, eating fresh seafood, watching fireworks, summer picnics, ice skating, snow sliding — and more than anything, she loved her friends and family. She cherished the natural and simple things in life. She kept hummingbird feeders near every window so that she could watch their comings and goings.

Sharon took great pleasure in listening to stories told by older people. She was captivated by the history and lore of Mount Desert Island, its magical forests, rocky shores, secret swimming holes and starry nights.

Sharon was predeceased by her beloved parents, H. Oliver "Tim" Jordan and Theda Davis Jordan, and by her husband, Larry English.

Sharon is survived by her life partner, Phillip Collins of Pascoag, R.I. and Seal Cove; her beloved daughter and son, Larilee English of Gorham, and H. Oliver "Punky" English of Montana; two grandchildren, Jordan Anne Clark of California, and Jonah Nash Smeall of Gorham; her dear cousins, Marilyee Thompson Dowling of Wells, Spring Thompson Harkins of Franklin, and Michael Dawes of Fairlfield; and countless cousins and friends who were special to her.

Per Sharon's wishes, there will be no funeral or memorial service. A private gathering for family and friends may be held at a later date.

God bless you "Shanadoo," our darling "Shanny." Find peace and joy in Paradise over yonder.
