SNOW HILL | Mr. Benjamin Thomas "Chuck" Harper, Jr., 65, died Sunday, March 19, 2017, at his home in Snow Hill. Born July 10, 1951, Chuck was the son of the late, Benjamin Thomas Harper and Mel Jones Harper. Following graduation from Greene Central High School he attended Lenoir Community College. Chuck spent many years as a tobacco buyer and swine producer operating Harper Farms. He retired from Acculink in Greenville. Chuck was a member of Calvary Memorial United Methodist Church in Snow Hill. His surviving family includes his sons, Benjamin T. Harper III and wife Ann, of Stantonsburg, and James H. Harper III and wife Meredith, of Snow Hill; his mother, Mel Jones Harper of Snow Hill; sister, Laura Harper O'Brien and husband Tom, of Snow Hill; nieces, Katherine O'Brien of Raleigh and Nancy O'Brien of Washington D.C.; aunts and uncles, Linda J. Jones and husband Jackson, Michael B. Jones, and Jean Harper, all of Snow Hill, and Betsy Harper of Grifton; his grandsons, Carson and Luke and soon to arrive, Jake; and numerous cousins of the Jones and Harper families. A graveside memorial service will be held 11 a.m. Thursday, March 23, at St. Barnabas Cemetery with the Reverend Martin Armstrong officiating. The family will receive friends following the service at the fellowship hall of Calvary Memorial UMC and other times at the home of his mother, Mel J. Harper. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Calvary Memorial UMC, PO Box 445, Snow Hill, NC 28580 or to the Greene County Animal Shelter, 227 Kingold Blvd., Snow Hill, NC 28580. Taylor-Tyson Funeral Home is assisting in arrangements.
