John E. Linn, 79, of Athens, died Sunday, March 19, 2017 at his home.

He was a native and resident of Chattanooga and longtime resident of Athens. John was the son of the late John Edward and Mabel E. Self Linn.

He was of the Baptist faith, was a past president of the McMinn-Meigs Bar Association, and was a member of the BPOE Lodge #1927. He was a graduate of the University of Chattanooga and the University of Cincinnati School of Law with a J.D. He started his legal career as a Title Attorney for TVA, and then opened his Private Practice in Athens in 1969, until his retirement in September 2015.

He is survived by a special friend, Ronald D. Moses of Athens; lifelong friends, Barbara Underdown of Athens and Eddie Moses of Morristown, TN; and several nieces, nephew and cousins.

A funeral service will be conducted, 1:00 pm, Wednesday, March 22, 2017 in the chapel of Smith Funeral Home with Pastor Wayne Carter officiating. Interment will follow in Cedar Grove Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 11:00am till 1:00 pm at the funeral home prior to the service.

Pallbearers will be Johnny Underdown III, Spencer Sullivan, Tony Sullivan, Josh Aly, Chris Morgan, and Jeff Cunningham.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorials be made in John's name to the McMinn Regional Humane Society, 209 Alford Street, Athens, TN 37303.
