AMY T. RUSSELL, age 93, of 338 Lower Creek Rd., Ithaca, NY died Monday Nov. 7, 2005 at home. She was born December 6, 1911 at Ithaca a daughter of the late Martin N. and Lydia E. Jewett Tobey. She was a life area resident and on June 27, 1936 was married to Harry J. Russell (1905-1979) at St. Paul's Church, Ithaca. Amy was an educator and was distinguished by her many educational and civic accomplishments. She was graduated from Cornell University in 1933 and from Cortland Normal School in 1934. She continued her education by earning a Masters in Education from Cornell in 1965. She taught in many districts including the Padlock District near Richford, NY, Newfield Elementary, Cayuga Heights Elementary and retired as an Assistant Professor Emeritus of the Campus School, SUNY Cortland. Additionally she held memberships in several organizations including being a Past President of the Mu chapter of Pi Lambda Theta, a member of Association of Student Teaching, Faculty Association of the State of New York and many other educational groups and associations. She was a member and Past Matron of Mystic Chapter, Order of the Eastern Star and in 1975 served as the District Deputy Grand Matron of the Cayuga-Tompkins District of the O.E.S.; a member and Past Grand Officer of the White Shrine of Jerusalem, a member of the Amaranth in Cortland and the Republican Women's Club. Amy was an involved person who gave tirelessly of her time and talents. Along with her daughter she operated the kennel, Heart's Desire Shelties. She was a member of the Ithaca Kennel Club and the Ithaca Dog Training Club.
Survivors include her daughter, Linda L. Russell and a son, Richard J. Russell of Ithaca, NY; grandchildren, Michelle Russell, David (Christine) Russell, Rodney (Jennifer) Russell and Kathleen (Henry) Cusano; five great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 2 PM Friday, Nov. 11 at the Perkins Funeral Home with Rev. Rebecca Dolch officiating. Burial will follow in Willow Glen Cemetery, Dryden. Friends are invited to call from 7 to 9 PM Thursday at the funeral home, 55 West Main St., Dryden. Members of Mystic Chapter will conduct O.E.S. services at 8:45 PM Thursday at the funeral home. Those wishing to remember Amy are asked to consider a memorial to a charity of one's own choice or to the Tompkins County SPCA, 1640 Hanshaw Rd., Ithaca, NY 14850.
