Screven, Ga.

Rosie Mae Freeman, 83 of Screven died Monday, March 20, 2017 at her residence and under the care of Southern Care Hospice. The Arkansas native had lived in Wayne County the past 22 years and was a member of House of Worship and Ministries. She taught Sunday school and ministered to children within the church and in the community. Her family named her the “Best Cook in the South” as she was famous for her fried chocolate pies. Her husband, Rev. Ernest “L.J.” Freeman preceded her in death along with her parents, Robert and Nettie Iona Roper, sisters, Mary McCall, Ann Lyle, Juanita Trimmer, Sue Cagle, brothers, Claud, Albert, Tom, Billy Joe and Arthur Roper.

Survivors are two daughters and sons-in-law, Janetta and Tracy Cox, Brenda and Gary Patnode, both of Screven, Ga.; a son and daughter-in-law, Jerry and Geneva Freeman of Venus, Fla.; 11 grandchildren, several great grandchildren; brother, Robert (Joy) Roper of Swifton, Arkansas; several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be 11 A.M. Thursday, March 23, 2017 at Rinehart and Sons Chapel with Pastor Mickey Tomberlin officiating. Interment will be in the Screven City Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Tracy Cox, Jr., Avery Cox, Danny Cox, Billy Arnold, Kyle Proffitt and Nathan McKinzie. Honorary pallbearers will be the staff of Southern Care Hospice.

Visitation will be 10 to 11 A.M. prior to services at the funeral home.
