Florence Miller (May) Banks
September 7, 1919 to March 12, 2017

97 ½ years young. Florence succumbed to natural age-related maladies and was peacefully called home to God. She was preceded by her husband, C. Jay Banks (June 27, 1982) and brother, Franklin May and wife Mary.

She is survived by her daughters and her son, six grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren, one niece.

Florence was born in Reading, PA, to Franklin and Florence May (Miller) May. After graduating from Reading High School in 1937 where she lettered in all sports, she worked for Luden's Candy and Cough Drop Co. for 4 years. She traveled to California to visit aunt Carol Teeples, where she met her husband-to-be, Jay Banks at the LDS church.

Florence and Jay were married on June 16, 1943 and Sealed in the Salt Lake City Temple on April 9, 1945. Florence was known for her elaborate gift bows, an immaculate home and family. Florence was a great cook and always sat a magnificent table. After her children were out of school she worked for the S.F. School Board for 20 years. Florence enjoyed Hawaiian music and listened to Hawaii Calls on the radio and later on television. She was a great hand-and-foot card player and everyone wanted to be her partner. She loved the SF Giants and Judy took her to her first game on her 65th birthday at Candlestick Park. Then, on her 89th birthday Jan took her to her last game at ATT Park. A "Happy Birthday, Florence," and her age, were displayed on the huge score- board at both games. Her favorite player was Hunter Pence. Through her last 15 years, Janice lived with her and was her primary, fantastic and loving care-giver.
