Cordell met Rita Quammen in 1973 and they were married on May 3rd, 1975 in Leeds, ND. They made their home in Devils Lake where they had two daughters. They also lived in Carrington before moving to Minot.
He was an electrician, working for local companies in Devils Lake and Carrington, as well as Camp Grafton, outside of Devils Lake. He also started his own business, Streifel's Electric. In 1991, he began working for Minot Public Schools, where he was employed as an electrician for the past 25 years.
Cordell enjoyed gardening, traveling, fishing and hunting, but most of all, he loved spending time with his family. He loved watching his daughters and grandchildren grow up, although he wished they would stay little forever.

Cordell was preceded in death by: his father, Nick; sister, Cyndee; brother-in-law, John Walski and his beloved dog, Zach.
