Jack Roland Barron of Rentz, Georgia, died March 19, 2017 at Navicent Health Center in Macon, Georgia. He was 94.
Jack Roland Barron was born in 1922 to Walter and Ella Barron (nee Rowland) in Dexter, Georgia. He was the fourth child in a family of one girl (Marjorie) and five boys (Lamar, Harold, and twin brothers Richard and Robert).
His family moved to the boom town of Miami, Florida, in the 1930's where his father owned and operated a gas station. When his father died in 1934, Jack dropped out of school and lied about his age to work in the Civilian Conservation Corps to help support his family.
When the Japanese invaded Pearl Harbor he joined the U.S. Army and served in the 96th Infantry Division (the "Deadeyes”) from 1942 to 1945. He fought in the Pacific theater liberating the Philippines, and personally witnessed General Douglas McArthur wading ashore on Leyte.
After the war, he moved his family to Pontiac, Michigan, and started Barron Construction Company, which became one of the largest masonry contractors in the Detroit area. His company built factories for General Motors and Parke-Davis, as well as numerous schools, hospitals, and shopping centers.
Mr. Barron was an active and highly experienced pilot who owned several airplanes, his favorite being a 1966 Mooney M20 Mark 21, N6072Q, in which he flew over a thousand hours. After retirement he returned to Georgia where he bought a home and 17 acres in Rentz, Georgia. He and Margaret became active members of the Rentz Baptist Church, where he was respected and beloved as a gifted Sunday School teacher. His love of God and strong faith were the pillars of his life.
Services will be held at 2:00PM on Wednesday, March 22, 2017 at Rentz Baptist Church. Burial will follow in Mount Carmel Baptist Church Cemetery. Rev. Tom Vann will officiate.
The family will receive friends from 1:00PM until funeral hour at the church on Wednesday.
