James R. “Bob” Geary, 88, of McCune, passed away at 3:30 a.m., Sunday, March 19, 2017 at Medicalodge in Pittsburg.
He was born February 19, 1929 in McCune, Kansas to James Edgar and Nellie Mar (Overley) Geary. He grew up and attended school in McCune and was a 1947 graduate of McCune Rural High School. Bob proudly served in the United States Army Reserve for 22 years.
He and Joan M. Terril were married January 2, 1955 at the First Methodist Church in Parsons. Following marriage, they lived in Baxter Springs several years before returning to McCune where they have lived since. He was employed by Spencer Chemical Company, which later became Gulf Oil Company, until retiring after 22 years of service.
He attended the McCune United Methodist Church. Bob was a member of the Kent Chapter No. 117 Order of the Eastern Star in Weir and the Black Diamond Masonic Lodge No. 274 A.F. & A.M. in Weir. He was also a member of the Fort Scott Scottish Rite.
Bob was an avid K-State Wildcat fan and enjoyed watching his grandson, Will, play football there. He also enjoyed watching his grandson, Ty, play baseball for the Topeka Train Robbers professional baseball independent league.
Survivors include his loving wife of 62 years, Joan Geary, of the home; and two grandsons, James Tyler Geary and William Michael Geary.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and two sons, James Michael Geary and Patrick Lee Geary.
Graveside memorial services will be held 1:30 p.m., Friday, March 24, 2017 at the McCune Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the McCune Veterans Memorial located at the McCune Cemetery. These may be left at or mailed to Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home, P.O. Box 374, Parsons, KS 67357.
