Alice L. Hess, 92 of Greensburg, passed away on Monday, March 20, 2017 at the Heritage House Nursing Home. Alice was born in Adams on August 21, 1924, the daughter of Albert and Ethel (Hoffman) Oliphant. She married Charles Hess on March 31, 1945 in Greensburg and he preceded her in death on December 24, 1963.
Survivors include her two daughters – Maxine Wilhoit of Franklin, IN and Chloe (Richard) Delay of Greensburg; one son Kenneth “Danny” (Jama) Hess of New Point; one daughter in law Jewelene Hess of Greensburg; 12 grandchildren; 26 great grandchildren; and 14 great great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband Robert Davis; her second husband Charles; two sons – Gary and Brian Hess; four sisters – Elsie Sellers, Ethel Darby, Roxie Newby and Leota Hays; and seven brothers – Chester, Arthur, Paul, Kenneth, Roscoe, Cecil and Wesley Oliphant.
Alice worked for many years as a waitress at Big John’s Truck Stop and a custodian at Jackson High School. She attended the First Church of God for many years and was an avid Bingo player.
Visitation for family and friends will be held on Thursday, March 23, 2017 from 11AM until the start of the funeral service at 1PM at the Gilliland-Howe Funeral Home. Burial will follow at the South Park Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society or to the family.
