Fred's first wife was Bessie Owens Wardlaw. They were the parents of one daughter, Mrs. W.E. Smith, and one son, John Wardlaw, both residents of Conestee.
Fred's second wife was Ollie Chadwick Wardlaw. He was her fourth husband and she survived him.
His obituary stated he was retired from farming and was a member of Friendship Baptist Church. He had been a resident of Conestee for 15 years.
Survived by his wife and two children; a half-brother, Leland Wardlaw of Columbia; five half-sisters, Mrs. Corine Wilson and Mrs. Deanie McSwaney of Greenville, Mrs. Mae Wakester of Liberty; Mrs. Alcen McBee of Six Mile, and Mrs. Dessie GeLee of Washington, DC; two grandchildren.
Funeral services were held on Tuesday, July 20, 1954 at Conestee Church of God, conducted by Rev. Arthur Davis and Rev. F.B. Gravitt.
Burial: Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church Cemetery, Anderson County, SC.
As was often the custom of the day, his body remained at the home until time for the funeral. In this case, visitation was held at the home of his nephew, Sam Wardlaw, of 6 Duxbury St.
