Jean was a daughter of Louise (Gibbs) & L. Douglas Young. She was a twin to Martha, who was born 9 minutes before Jean. They were born on the kitchen table!! Their maternal grandmother forbade the twins mother from going to a hospital because she didn't trust hospitals! They had a younger sister, Mary. Jean was a graduate of Hope High School in Providence, Rhode Island, and attended the Rhode Island School of Design. She was a graduate of the Katherine Gibbs Secretarial School. Much later in life, RI School of Design awarded her an honorary degree.
Jean married John W. Haley, Jr. and they had 3 sons: William D., John W. III and Dwight R.
Jean loved spending time with her family, reading, taking long drives in her Cadillac, visiting Dunkin Donuts and the Newport Creamery, and doing the daily crossword puzzles and visiting with her beloved grandchildren: Robert, Jaclyn and Nathan and her 2 great-grandchildren!!!
Jean died trying to save her twin, Martha. They died together.
