James "Jim" Edward Harris, 85, of Three Forks, died at the Bozeman Lodge on December 14 due to complications of kidney disease.

He was born August 9, 1927 in Clyde Park, Montana. His mother was Ada Bullock Harris Delano and his father was Tony Delano.

Jim lived in Chestnut, Anaconda and Bozeman during his younger years. He was a 1945 graduate of Gallatin Valley High School in Bozeman.

He married the love of his life, Betty Jean Wiedenmeyer, on August 18, 1950 in Bozeman. They were later sealed in the Provo, Utah LDS Temple in October 1973.

After high school Jim served in the U.S. Navy during World War II as a Yeoman 3rd Class. He studied briefly at the Butte Business School before starting his employment at Ideal Cement Company in Trident. He worked for Ideal Cement from 1948 to 1983 when he retired. During his time with Ideal he worked his way up from laborer to various supervisory positions. All his time with Ideal was spent at Trident with the exception of a three-year period when he was transferred to the Redwood City, Calif. plant in charge of marine operations on San Francisco Bay.

After retirement, Jim spent much of his time volunteering for various organizations including his church and for a court-appointed committee for the Friends of Sunset Memorial Gardens. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. He served in various church positions including ward clerk, branch president, stake high councilor, and temple worker at the Billings, Montana LDS Temple.

Above all, Jim was intimately involved with every aspect of raising his children and grandchildren. He rarely missed an athletic event, school activity, or church program involving his children and grandchildren. He has spent the 15 years since Betty's death in anticipation of the time when they would be together again.

Survivors include one daughter, Brenda Lazarow (David) of Belgrade; three sons, Russell and Debra (Vance) Harris of Vista, Calif., Vern and Judy (Miller) Harris of Three Forks, Michael and Sherrie (Chor) Harris of Missoula; one sister, Karen (Pete) McGarry; 17 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, parents, a brother, Wayne Harris and a sister, Mary Dunn.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, December 21 at 11 a.m. at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints (601 6th Avenue East and Grove) in Three Forks with Bishop Scott Kiilsgaard officiating.

Interment will follow at the Sunset Memorial Gardens in Belgrade.

Many thanks to the Bozeman Lodge for their wonderful community and the Bozeman Deaconess Hospital Dialysis Center for their dedicated and loving care for Jim during the many years he was a part of the dialysis program.
