Richard C. Hartman, 83, died Sunday, July 27, 2003 at the York Hospital. He was the husband of the late Mildred A. (Castle) Hartman who died May 19, 1996.

Born April 2, 1920 in Yoe, he was the son of the late Chester H. and Minnie M. (Stabley) Hartman.

Richard worked as an operator at Cooper Industries, the former Campbell Chain of York, for over 40 years, retiring in 1987. A U.S. Army veteran he served during WWII with the 76th Infantry Division of Patton's 3rd Army, having served in three campaigns including the Battle of the Bulge.

He earned one Bronze Star and a Combat Infantry Badge. Richard was a member of Dallastown American Legion Post 605, Petersburg Post 150 and Stewartstown Legion. He was also a member of Hawks of York, Petersburg Fire Company and Red Lion VFW.

Surviving is a daughter, Carolyne A. Carl of Gettysburg; two sons, Robert L. Hartman of Brogue and Richard L. Hartman of Dallastown; 11 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Darlene Dawn Roberts and a grandson, Richard C. Hartman.

The funeral service will be Thursday at 1 p.m. at the Austin H. Eberly Funeral Home, 104 W. Main St., Dallastown with the Rev. Paul Carl officiating. Viewing will be Wednesday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home. For those desiring memorial contributions may be made to American Legion Post 605, 57 West Main Street, Dallastown, PA 17313.
