Clyde (Bill) Norman, 55, of 306 Lampert St., an accountant, employed for the past 28 years at Alton State Hospital, died unexpectedly this morning,(Friday) apparently of a heart attack. Norman was moved by ambulance to St. Joseph's Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival at 8:30AM.

Norman, a Veteran of World War II, was born April 27, 1903 at Crab Orchard. He had resided in Alton for the past 28 years.

He was a member of the Methodist Church; Franklin Lodge, A.F. & A.M. No 25; Alton Aerie No. 25, Eagles, Alton-Wood River Sportsmans Club and Wood River Post of the American Legion.

He was preceded in death by his father, James Monroe Norman, his paternal grandparents, Francis Marion and Mary (Whitlock) Norman, and his maternal grandparents, Soloman Demarcus and Martha A.(Grissom) Thompson.

Surviving are his wife, the former Helen Nutrey, to whom he was married 30 Aug 1940, in St. Louis, MO; his mother Mrs Mary (Thompson) Norman of Herrin; a daughter, Mrs. Kenneth Calamet of East Alton; two brothers Lowell of Marion, and Jack of Carbondale and four grandchildren.

The body is at Smith Funeral Home where friends may call after 1PM Saturday. Funeral rites will be conducted Monday at 2PM at the funeral home. Burial will be in Roselawn Memory Gardens.
