Jack W. Barnett, 74, passed away Friday, July 3rd, 2015. A Memorial Service is planned for 4:00pm, Tuesday, July 7th, 2015, at the VFW Post 8787, 500 VFW Road, Austin, Texas, 78753. Cremation services are under the care direction of Distinctive Life Cremations and Funerals of Austin. Jack was born Thursday, December, 19, 1940, in Taylor, Texas, to Mildred (Purser) and Olin "Daddy Jack" Mobley Barnett. Jack married his best friend, Margaret, on June 13, 1985. Their marriage was one of those where the honeymoon phase never ended. Jack and Margaret loved South Texas and spent many weekends at their little place just north of Langtry. Jack loved to hunt and together, he and Margaret enjoyed fishing the Pecos River. Both were avid rock hounds, and in past years, enjoyed making handmade jewelry with their finds. Together Jack and Margaret entertained many a wayward neighbor on their deck overlooking the various flower gardens and potted plants that they both tended with great care. Jack was very proud of his kids and grand kids; he was always ready with an "allll riighttt" when something deserved praise. Jack will be remembered as one of those people that would offer the shirt off his back and cold beer to go with it. He'll also be remembered as one of the most sincere and kindest men, and will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him. He never knew a stranger. Jack is survived by his beloved wife of 30 years, Margaret (Ming) Barnett; daughter, Traci Barnett; two stepdaughters, Barbara Shamard and husband, Clifford, and Donna Dunn and husband, Hyatt; stepson, Charles Manning and wife, Anna; five grandchildren, Anthony James, Justin Dunn, Jacob Dunn, Cody Dunn, Matthew Manning; one great-grandson, Landon James; two brothers, Ronnie Barnett and wife, Pat, and Jimmie Barnett; his best buddy and constant companion, Buffy the Dog; and many other extended and cherished family members. We would like to thank the nurses, or "Angels" as Jack called them, at Texas Oncology, the hospice nurses with A*Med Hospice, and our thanks also to Melissa with Distinctive Life for her care and support during our time of loss. Thank you, James, for helping Jack and Margaret with different tasks around the house; may your kindness be returned to you ten-fold. Lastly, many thanks to the numerous neighbors that stopped by to visit with and check on Jack during his final months. Go rest high on that mountain, Son, your work on earth is done.
